Good Neighbor Connector... West Florida

4.5-Mile Trail Link in the FL Coast-to-Coast Trail

The trail link runs off-street, next to State Road 50 (Cortez Blvd.) for about 4.5 miles from the Suncoast Trail near Spring Hill, FL, to Cobb Road in Brooksville. Serving as a connector in the Florida Coast-to-Coast Trail (C2C), it will link (under construction) to the Good Neighbor Trail at Russell St. near the main trailhead in Brooksville. Virtually all roadside and unshaded, this is not the most scenic section in the C2C, but the wide, grassy, and often ditched buffer made us feel safe, and the bike ride was more pleasant than we first anticipated. We passed walkers. Look for landscaping and benches in the future. (Map link and photos below.)

Biking on the Good Neighbor Connector... Comments and Photos

From the Suncoast Trail to Cobb Road (4.5 Miles)

Trailhead to Wiscon Road

A trailhead for the Suncoast Trail is located on the south side of SR50, just west of the Suncoast Parkway (FL 589). From the trailhead parking lot, ride north toward SR50 for a few hundred feet. Just before the trail bridge over SR50, a paved path splits off to the right, which leads to the Connector along SR50. Here, turn right (east) and proceed under the Suncoast Parkway. Past the Parkway, the trail angles to the right and follows Wiscon Rd., avoiding a tricky intersection. In a couple of blocks, the trail turns back to SR50 along Winter St. In sum, a tedious first few blocks, but beyond this, the Connector gets progressively better as it continues towards Brooksville.

Along SR 50 to Cobb Road

The trail from Winter St. runs roadside along SR50 with a wide buffer to just before Cobb Road. This is a busy road, be careful at business entrances and road crossings. Nevertheless, as it's a wide path buffered from the road and past some "green" areas, it was more pleasant than we expected. After passing Bayfront Health (hospital), there are few businesses and crossroads, a mostly wooded section, before ending just before Cobb Road.

Cobb Road to Russell St. - Closing the Gap (3 miles)

Currently, a road route exists from Cobb Road to the Good Neighbor Trail at Russell St. near the Brooksville Trailhead. Construction is underway to complete this link, with completion expected in early 2025.
